Born with a Foot on his Brain

Can you believe this?

There are lots of unbelievable news nowadays, when I read this article all I can conclude is that “There are really NO such things that are Impossible.”

_45312745_esquibel_226b_apUS surgeons operating on a brain tumour in a baby boy found a tiny foot inside his head.

Doctors operated on three-day old Sam Esquibel after finding what looked like a microscopic tumour on an MRI scan.

But while removing the growth, they also found a nearly perfect foot and the partial formation of another foot, a hand and a thigh.

The growth may have been a case of “foetus in foetu” in which a twin begins to form within its sibling.

However, the team at Memorial Hospital for Children in Colorado Springs said such cases very rarely occur in the brain.

It may also have been a type of congenital brain tumour.

But such growths are usually less complex than a foot or hand, the doctors added.

Unique

Dr Paul Grabb, a paediatric neurosurgeon, said Sam was otherwise healthy when he underwent the procedure in October.

“It looked like the breech delivery of a baby, coming out of the brain,” he said.

“To find a perfectly formed structure (like this) is extremely unique, unusual, borderline unheard of.”

Sam’s parents, Tiffnie and Manuel Esquibel, say their son is at home now but faces monthly blood tests to check for signs of cancer or regrowth, along with physical therapy to improve the use of his neck.

But they say he has mostly recovered from the operation.

“You’d never know if he didn’t have a scar there,” his mother said.

Mr Dominic Thompson, a consultant paediatric neurosurgeon at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital, said there were probably less than 100 recorded cases of foetus in foetu in the medical literature.

He said another possibility was that the tumour was of a type called a teratoma, which can include tissue such as muscle and fat, and more rarely bone and teeth.

However, he said the available details from the US case suggested that foetus in foetu was the most likely explanation, as the tissue was so exceptionally well formed.

Trevor Lawson, of the charity Brain Tumour UK, said: “Even with modern imaging techniques, surgeons can’t be entirely sure of what they’ll find when they go into the skull.

“Even so, this is an exceptionally rare event.

“It’s good to know that baby Sam is recovering well. Brain tumours now kill more children than any other solid cancer and it’s essential that more research is undertaken to identify what causes them.

“Where appropriate consent is gained, rare events like these can sometimes provide invaluable genetic material that gives an insight into the origins of these traumatic tumours.”

Caring For Animals

How to treat a broken leg:

If a leg is lying at an awkward angle, it may means that a bone is broken.

  • Stop any bleeding.
  • Ease the leg into as comfortable position as possible. Warn whoever is holding the animal before you move the leg. The pain may make the animal try to bite or scratch.
  • Straighten the leg gently into a more normal position. Then splint it by bandaging it gently but firmly to a piece of wood or hardboard of roughly the same shape as the leg.
  • If the animal is too difficult to handle do not attempt to apply a splint; a heavy dressing on the lower limb will do just as well.
  • Then take the animal to a vet.

Animals should be treated like humans.. There are lot of stories also that they save human lives.

The Woman of the Year

Is this really true? I hope there are lots of people are like this nowadays..

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — A Murfreesboro woman says she returned $97,000 she claims to have found in a Cracker Barrel restroom, but police said Tuesday they have no report of the find. Billie Watts, 75, told The Daily News Journal that she discovered the money inside a tapestry bag hanging from a hook on a stall door last Thursday.

But five days later, the money and its anonymous owner remain something of a mystery in the community, where police said that they have no report of the find.

While digging through the bag to figure out its owner, Watts says she found a bundle of neatly stacked $1,000 bills.

Watts said she and her husband took the money home, but later called the restaurant back and asked if there was a lost-and-found department. She was told yes, and left her number.

A woman called about 15 minutes later and verified she was the owner by identifying pictures left in the bag. Watts returned the bag to the owner, whom she described as an elderly woman, but said she does not have the woman’s last name or phone number.

Watts said the woman told her that the money came from selling her home and her belongings and that she was going to start a new life in Florida with her son. Watts says the woman offered to pay her $1,000, but Watts refused it.

Who Makes the Best Cars?

I was shocked by what I have read a while ago. I found this article and surely someone will react with this one. So I will just post a poll on this topic.

Based on Consumer Reports:

“Honda tops, but Ford and GM have improved”

Overall, the best cars sold in the U.S. are made by Honda. That’s the conclusion of a recent analysis conducted by Consumer Reports that looks at the reliability, performance, fuel economy, comfort, interior fit and finish, and ergonomics of 262 vehicles we’ve recently tested.

Honda, with an overall score of 78, is followed closely by Toyota (75) and Subaru (72). BMW, Mazda, Nissan, and Volkswagen are tied at 71, after rounding.

Detroit automakers garnered some of the lowest scores, but we have seen some significant signs of improvement in Ford and GM vehicles this past year. CONTINUE>>

“This poll is about who makes the best cars and not who makes the most expensive cars..”

Malaria Vaccine Effective

Now let’s talk about health.. It’s a good news to everyone. I have found a latest article that talks about malaria vaccine. and there’s nothing to worry about because scientists find a cure to malaria and it was effective with there latest trials..

“Malaria is killing almost 1 million people, mostly African children, every year,” Dr. Christian Loucq, director of the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative, said during a morning teleconference Monday. “Clearly, the world needs a safe and effective malaria vaccine.”

The vaccine, called RTS,S, is one of several vaccine candidates for malaria, Loucq said. Other vaccines are under development, but RTS,S is the one that is furthest along and ready for phase III testing, he noted.

“These studies offer further evidence that RTS,S provides both infants and young children with substantial protection against the disease,” Loucq said. “We are closer than ever before to having a malaria vaccine for use by the children in Africa.”

The findings were published online Dec. 8 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

RTS,S was developed by drugmaker Glaxo-Smith-Kline. When the shot is given it also has another component, called either ASO1 or ASO2, which is given to boost the vaccine’s effectiveness. CONTINUE>>
